...Party people on the floor, now let's begin. / If you wanna let loose, I'ma show you the way. / Whoop! There it is. / Hit meh! *tootsie rolls*
I got tagged by the beautiful Sweet T, so here goes:
1. What inspired you to start a blog and share your style with the world?
I was inspired by finding that there was an ever-expanding group of bloggers out there who were like me - queer women of color trying to make some sense of these things called life and sexuality. I don't know about style, but I share my life with the world in hopes that someone out there will find that much needed sense of community and support or even just entertainment from a familiar point of view like I did with the bloggers that came before me.
2. If you dumped your handbag right this second, what contents would fall out of your makeup bag?
I usually just carry my wallet in my pocket or hand, but I do have a shoulder bag. Anywho, I don't wear makeup. I've got a Blistex Lip Infusion Moisture Blast gloss/chapstick, Carmex cherry chapstick (like every good lesbian should), an Axe Vice body spray bullet, and some Very Irresistible Givenchy hand lotion. That's about it.
3. Which celebrity do you wish you had of speed dial to call for shopping dates?
Well, Ellen for one, because I'm always down for some fresh sweaters, button downs, dark wash jeans, ties/scarves, and sneakers. Diggy Simmons, for that hipster/prep, fashion week look. Diddy - I may not be a fan of the man, but I love a lot of pieces from his Sean John collections. Sara Ramirez, because I want to (un)dress her. :)
4. Favorite Ben and Jerry's flavor.
I can't say I have one, but the brown sugar cinnamon ice cream they've used as a base for some of their flavors kicks my ass. My favorite ice cream is Starbucks' Java Chip Frappuccino. A close second is any good Vanilla Bean.
5. What are you most looking forward to pulling out of your closet this fall?
My boots, lightweight jackets, and scarves.
6. Describe your personal style in three words.
Preppy hipster thug.
7. What are you currently rocking on your iPod?
I've got everything but country in my music collection, but Andra Govere, Erykah Badu, Diggy Simmons, 90s Queen Latifah, and Epik the Dawn's beats are in heavy rotation currently. Celia Cruz, Alicia Keys, Sade, Prince, and anything from the black house boom of the 90s are staples for me. Individual songs I'm feeling right now are Miguel ft. J. Cole "All I Want is You," Mike Posner "Cooler Than Me (Gigamesh Remix)," Nelson (the RnB singer, not the blond twins) "Can't Stop Thinking 'Bout You," and Kanye West ft. Dwele "Power."
8. What's your favorite way to mix high-end items with low-budget pieces?
I spend the big money on pieces that are going to last me a long time - jackets, shoes, sweaters, and accessories. Things that I go through and/or wear out fast like sneakers and shirts, I keep cheap and simple or buy them on sale at anywhere from KMart to Gucci.
I tag Humbly Beautiful and any of you sexy lurkers out there that haven't been tagged yet.
